Announcement: May Skills Workshop ‘writing up your research for publication’

Announcing the TUU Postgraduate Council and TasPostgrads May 2012 Skills Workshop, entitled ‘Writing up your research for publication’

This has been the most requested skills workshop topic for the past few years as publishing and communicating our research is something we all aim for regardless of our discipline. As methods and aims of publishing are drastically different for the Arts as they are for the Sciences, we have slit this workshop into two sessions.

‘for the Arts’
with guest speaker Assoc. Prof. Keith Jacobs
Assoc. Prof. Keith Jacobs has published widely on housing and urban policy issues, is the author of The Dynamics of Local Housing Policy published by Ashgate Press (1999) and Social Constructionism in Housing Research (2004) edited with Jim Kemeny and Tony Manzi (Ashgate Press). Keith’s most recent publications include: a monograph – Experience and Representation: Contemporary Perspectives on Australian Migration (Ashgate Press, 2011) and an edited collection (with Jeff Malpas) – Between the Ocean and the Outback: Cosmopolitanism in Contemporary Australia (UWA Publishing 2011). Keith is also a member of the editorial board for the journal Housing Studies, and the international advisory board of Housing, Theory and Society.
Live in Hobart and video conferenced to Launceston and Cradle Coast 28th May

‘for the Sciences’
with guest speaker Prof. Barbara Nowak
Scientific papers are the main method of communication in science. Strong publication record is essential for a successful academic career. In this workshop we will discuss the process of writing and publishing scientific papers. The strategies for publication success will be outlined.
Professor Barbara Nowak has published over 160 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. She is Associate Editor of two scientific journals and a member of Editorial Board of another journal. She reviews manuscripts for 25 journals on regular basis.

Celebrating the multiculturalism of RHD’s at UTAS

Celebrating the multiculturalism of RHD's at UTAS

Thank you for all those who came out to celebrate Harmony Day. At the event, we asked the postgraduates to identify where they origionated from. I am constantly impressed with how global our postgraduate population is at UTAS. It also impressed the many members of the University and Tasmanian community who came and studied the map.
